Career planning like a successful golf pro.
When we watch a golf pro like Tiger Woods come up to the first tee do you think he has to ask the distance and the direction to the first green? No of course not, he’s played the course a number of times, he knows the distance to the pin from almost every place on the course.
Why? Because even if you are the best golf ball striker on the planet, planning wins tournments.
How much planning did you put into a recent presentation? Could it have been better? What plans have you put in place to make it better the next time? If the answer is nothing how do you expect to improve? Improvement and career planning comes in little bites. A tenth of a percent here, a small improvement there and over time the cumulative effect will be huge.
Recently I had occasion to look back on some web design skills that I had been sharpening for the last two years. I couldn’t believe how far I had come. It will be the same with you. Do you have a skill that requires some planning, some improvement? We all have areas in our careers that could improve. Or new careers that we want to explore.
Plan you career steps like a successful golf pro. I can’t guarantee you’ll be another Tiger Woods, but in your career field with proper planning you can at least copy this part of his game. And planning will get you successful results.
