With a wealth of over 40 years of working experience Glen knew job hunting after age 60 would be difficult, but he didn’t know how difficult.

Over a period of five months he sent out over 150 resumes. From these resumes he got 3 interviews. A grand total of zero job offers. He networked with everyone he ever had a contact with. He was getting close to giving up and retiring.

Then he went to meeting geared to helping those over 50 find the right job. Even if there was a career change involved, the meeting was designed to help those who wanted to move into another career field.

What Glen learned opened his eyes. It had nothing to do with writing resumes, or the dynamite cover letter or interviewing skills. It centered on one thing. Get in the best physical shape you are capable of! See you doctor first, get some help in designing your workout plan and as Nike said, “Just do it.”

Although Glen continued to send out resumes the number 1 item on his daily “to do” list was his diet and workout plan. In two months he lost 15lbs and he improved his distance and time on the treadmill. He felt better about himself, and even his suits fit better. Ten weeks after starting his workout plan, he got an interview. With his confidence at a high level, he looked better and guess what: he got a job offer which he accepted.

Now that he’s working Glen continued on his workout plan, although at a  bit of a lower level. He’s still losing a couple of pounds a month and he’s within 3 or 4 months of weighting what he weighted when he got out of college. His stammina is at a high level, his confidence has never been higher and he has no plans on retiring.

His workout plan gave him a second chance at a new career and he feels years younger than his 60 years. What’s your story of success in finding a job after age 50 or 60? Whatever your age, job hunting is a competition which requires your very best, physical and mental. Go for it!
